In the report, Citigroup noted, prom movie Today's acquisition of Onyx at $125/sh ($9.7B net of Onyx cash) is a positive for Amgen given that the financing costs are very cheap (LIBOR+104bp/5 yr debt) in our view. The deal will restore much needed top-line growth until the internal pipeline begins to deliver prom movie in '15. Amgen's financing of the deal with cash/debt will allow it to be accretive to EPS by '15 with minimal -2% EPS impact in '14. Given the overlap in oncology, we anticipate that Amgen will cut 25% of Onyx's R&D and 50% SG&A. The deal does inject some risk as the myeloma market is highly competitive, but Onyx has a promising pipeline prom movie with oprozomib for myeloma, and palbociclib for breast cancer. We do not model any success for oprozomib in our model and this could be the drug that will make this deal a home run long-term if successful.
